BUY & SELL

Request for Quote (RFQ)

The Buy & Sell process begins when the buyer creates and submits a request for quote to selected suppliers. These can be either preferred suppliers (set up in your Member Profile) or temporary non-preferred suppliers (member suppliers whose email addresses you know).

Note the following points about an RFQ document (RFQ/Quote Worksheet):
  • A single RFQ document can contain multiple line items.
  • Up to 5 suppliers (global suppliers) can be selected for the entire RFQ. These can be preferred suppliers or temporary non-preferred suppliers.
  • An "override suppliers" option is available for each line item. The override permits selection of additional preferred or non-preferred suppliers for the individual item.
  • Submitting the RFQ sends it simultaneously to all selected suppliers. An entry is also made in the Documents section of your calendar (My Calendar, accessible from the navigation bar).
  • Each supplier sees only those line items for which he or she was selected, but does not see which other suppliers were selected for the same line item.
  • After an RFQ has been submitted, and before or after quotes are received, either the buyer or supplier can open a negotiation/discussion about a line item.
  • Quotes from responding suppliers are added automatically to the RFQ document, grouped with the appropriate line item. If a supplier submits a quote by phone or fax instead of through the PartMiner FTZ, the buyer can enter the quote manually.
  • Each supplier sees only his/her information (quotes and discussions) on the RFQ document. Only the buyer has a complete view of information from all suppliers.
  • In the event of a market failure for a line item, the line item is sent to PartMiner for a quote.

The market failure detector is an automatic feature in the Buy & Sell Module. It is activated in the following circumstances:

-- if, by the deadline for quotes you set on an RFQ, the suppliers you have selected fail to quote you the needed parts on any line item.

-- if suppliers do not have the parts (by manufacturer part number) you need, or the quantity you need, or their lead times are too long relative to your required delivery date.

The detector does not activate just because you and your suppliers have not yet come to an agreement on price.
