FAQ - Find
 | What is the Find module?
The Find module is a web application that searches approximately two dozen electronic component distributor web sites for pricing and availability. The results of the search are displayed in one result set. This saves the user considerable time in having to locate and search each site individually.
Is the Find module the same product as PartMiner 3.0?
The Find module performs the same shopping activity as the PartMiner 3.0 application. Current users of PartMiner 3.0 should be able to recognize all of the features and functions of the Find module.
Is a download required?
No. the Find module is a web-based application.
What distributor sites are shopped?
The list of shopped sites are listed on the main page of Find. In addition, we list the sites under development as well as those sites that we cannot search or have agreed not to search.
What sites can't you search?
Technically, some sites are difficult to search with agent technology and provide erratic results. In addition, some sites just cannot accommodate the volume of traffic that is generated by the Find module.
Finally, some distributors have asked us not to shop their site - we cannot elaborate on why a site is not shopped but please feel free to contact your favorite distributor and ask them to be included in the Find module.
After I search, how do I get to the distributor?
To get to the web site for a distributor just click on the distributor link in the result set. This will take you to the results page on the distributor's site where you can usually just click a button to begin the purchasing process.
What types of products may I search for?
The Find module searches for all types of active and passive electronic components including but not limited to: microprocessors, circuit boards, resistors, memory, memory modules, inductors, logic, transistors, connectors, linear, diodes, sockets, other ICs, capacitors, and fuses.
Can I search by description?
In PartMiner 3.0, you could search by description but we found the feature was not that useful to our customers so we decided to discontinue the description search in Find. The Research module has a much better description search as well as parametric search capabilities.
May I search password-accessible sites with PartMiner?
The Find module does not support searching password sites at this time.
Can I search for more than one part at a time?
Yes, you may search for up to three parts at a time. Enter each part number into the search box separated by commas. the Find module does restrict the number of search results, so there is a practical limit to the number of parts that should be entered.
Are sites searched one at a time?
The Find module searches all of the web sites simultaneously and streams the result as they are returned.
I am getting too many results. How can I limit my results?
The 'Search By' method listed on center of the page can be used to narrow the shopping results. The default search method is 'Starts With' - try using the 'Exact' method for more concise results. You may also continue to use the 'Starts With' method with more characters. The more characters you enter the more precise the shopping results.
Can I save my results to view later?
Find search results can be captured using the Print button and saved to your local system. Enter in a file name and make sure it is saving in .html format. You will then be able to review your results later with your browser. | |
