CAPS™ Forecast
The premier database for electronic component information now contains LIFECYCLE FORECASTING!
PartMiner’s CAPS™ Forecast is based upon parametric and lifecycle status data from PartMiner’s comprehensive CAPS™ Database, sales data from industry-accepted sources, and the Product Lifecycle model outlined by the Electronic Industries Association. PartMiner's Life Cycle Forecast data is derived using mathematical algorithms developed in conjuction with Dr. Peter Sandborn and the University of Maryland.
CAPS™ Forecast allows users to make better decisions by providing important information for both engineering design and production planning purposes.
Predicted Lifecycle
The Predicted Lifecycle is based upon the Product Lifecycle curve model in EIA-724 (Standard for Product Lifecycle Data Model). The curve, which represents production volume over time, is seen at the bottom of the Lifecycle Forecast window that is available from the device detail page.
Lifecycle Stage: Indicates where the part currently is in its lifecycle. The current Lifecycle Stage of the part is displayed and color-coded in relation to the graph.
Risk Factor: A numerical ranking from 0 to 6, relating to the various lifecycle stages of Introduction, Growth, Maturity, Saturation, Decline and Phase-Out.
High Risk: Used for parts whose Risk Factor is greater than 5.
Low Risk: Used in some cases for parts whose Risk Factor is less than 2.
Zone of Obsolescence
Three dates are given to represent the period of time in which the part is forecast to become obsolete
(referred to as the Zone of Obsolescence). The earliest forecast obsolescence date is the
Low Date while the latest forecast obsolescence date is the High Date. The Average is the
midpoint of the zone.
